Specialists
Montessori Country School is delighted to provide our students with enriching educational experiences that complement our Montessori curriculum. Children at all program levels participate in one or more of the activities described below.
Music
Led by our music teacher Danny, MCS students of all ages participate in our music program. Children experience rhythm and movement while learning music fundamentals through song and the use of instruments. The older children begin a study of musical genres and notation while gaining experience with a variety of instruments including drums, recorders, xylophones, and ukuleles.
Art
Each week, Kindergarten and Elementary students gather in small groups with art teacher Isobel in our beautiful Art Studio. Students explore a variety of mediums, learning about artists, art theory, and artistic methods in a hands-on and creative way.
Fitness
Elementary students enjoy weekly fitness classes throughout the school year. In the warmer months, classes meet at Battle Point Park where we utilize a variety of the amenities offered to the community. In past wet, wintery months, we used indoor spaces like the Island Rock Gym for climbing, the Battle Point Transmitter building for gymnastics, or our classrooms for yoga.
Reading & Language
Teacher Hollind provides additional support to students, teachers and parents in the acquisition and retention of Language Arts skills. This includes but is not limited to penmanship, phonological coding, reading, spelling, reading comprehension, syllabification, punctuation, capitalization, morphology, grammar and sentence structure.
