Welcome to the Spruce Class!

Dear Spruce Families,

Welcome back! Serena and I are so excited to welcome you to the Spruce Class community. We hope you have had enjoyable and restful summers. We have been busy getting the classroom ready for your child, and are eagerly awaiting their return.

During the first month of school, we will be focusing on building our classroom community. We will be learning and reviewing names, getting to know each other, and going over classroom expectations. This will be a time for your child to become familiar with the environment, routines, and new friends.  We will spend time sharing what we did over the summer, as well as observing some seasonal changes.

For those families that are new to our classroom, we have two class pets: Ginny and Olivia. Ginny and Olivia are guinea pigs that the children will take care of. As the year progresses the children will gain the responsibility for preparing their vegetables, refilling their water and hay, and keeping the surrounding area tidy. These responsibilities relate to the direct goals of our Practical Life curriculum in Montessori Classrooms. These direct aims are: coordination, concentration, order, and independence.

Throughout the year we will be incorporating special studies into our Montessori curriculum. Special studies include, continents, peace makers, science experiments, botany, zoology, mindfulness, and artists. At the beginning of each month there will be a description of what the children discovered and what will be coming up next. These will be posted here on the Family Portal.

We will be going over more of what the year will entail during Back to School Night. We look forward to embarking on a new school year with you! Feel free to email Pearl at: pearl.kerber@mcsbi.org and Serena at: serena.johnson@mcsbi.org.

Warmly,
Pearl and Serena
