Spruce Class March Update

Happy April, Spruce families!

I just love springtime at MCS. The flowers are blooming, there are (occasionally) beams of sunshine on the playground, and the children are blossoming inside the classroom as well! We have witnessed several sweet friendships growing over the past month or two and they bring us so much joy.

This month, we are studying the wide world of insects and flowers. So far, we have learned about the parts of an insect, the life cycle of a butterfly, and the parts and life cycle of a flower. Some of our Kinders have gotten to pick a flower from the playground, dissect it, and label all of the parts. After Spring Break, we will be bringing caterpillars into the classroom and observing them turning into painted lady butterflies!

As part of our studies, we have been practicing several nature-themed songs, most of which will be part of our Earth Day celebration at school later this month. If you’re interested, two that you could look up at home are “Ladybug” by Frank Leto and “Seed in the Ground” by Connie Kaldor. Another one we’ve been practicing is “Ten Little Eggs” (lyrics below):

Ten little eggs, all in a mound
Out come the caterpillars crawling around
Soon they will sleep, and we know why
Out they will come as butterflies

Butterfly, butterfly, such lovely wings
Flutter by, flutter by, how my heart sings
Butterfly, butterfly, I’d like to know
When it rains, when it rains, where do you go?

We are so happy to be here doing this work with your children. Thank you for sharing them with us!

Warmly,
Lydia and Cydnie
