The children in the Toddler program at MCS are thrilled to be in an environment that is scaled to their size.  They flourish in an atmosphere that respects, supports, and responds to their basic needs for independence, exploration, and the building of trust and self-esteem.  The classroom and outdoor areas are richly prepared to address the needs of children 18 months to 3 years old.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the first three years of life are the most important in a child’s life. The toddler program at MCS is designed to meet the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of the child during this formative period, in a nurturing and supportive environment.  We work to instill trust, independence, concentration, and social skills.  With patience, warmth, and encouragement, our teachers guide each child in his or her own personal growth.

Our prepared environment is created to allow the child to choose work that stimulates interest and lays a foundation for a life-long love of learning.  Throughout the morning, children are free to explore both the indoor and outdoor classroom environments that have been thoughtfully prepared by the teacher. The activities found in the classroom and outdoor environment encourage development in movement, control of the hand, expressive and receptive language, social skills, and self care.

We reinforce grace and courtesy lessons and provide opportunities for children to learn about taking turns, waiting patiently, and working together in a community. Activities are designed to foster independence, self-confidence, and coordination, while allowing for positive group interactions.

Our toddler community at MCS is a safe and caring environment where children can explore the world around them and develop a sense of self and trust in the world through natural experiences in an environment prepared just for them!
