Cedar Class February Update

Dear Cedar Families,

February came in fast and furious, and we shared some sweet moments despite the sickness that rolled through the room touching most everyone, even Katie and myself.  I sincerely hope that Mid-Winter break gave everyone’s immune systems a chance to heal up in time for the start of Spring!

Highlights of February included of course, Valentine’s Day, which the children looked forward to with great excitement.  Many hearts were cut, thoughtful cards made for friends, and we learned how to create shades of pink at the easel, painting gigantic hearts.  We also looked at Pussywillows and learned about these unique first flowers of Spring.

We learned a bit about the Lunar New Year, and the Kinders worked with Dorothy to create a beautiful gigantic dragon for a dragon dance upon the return from break.  A big thank you to Dorothy for teaching the children a bit more about the Year of the Dragon, and sharing her knowledge about the Lunar New Year with our children!

The Kinders held their “Senses Party” on the last day of school before break, showcasing their life-size portraits and presenting their favorite senses to Cedar and Salal parents, culminating in a “tasting” of cookies baked specially for the event–and a dance party to “Happy!”

Snow on the last day before break inspired a flurry of snowflake cutting and decorating of the classroom, and some snowball tossing, reminding us that Winter is not quite over.

Some of our Cedar friends took home sugar snap peas to germinate over the break. In March we will study the parts of the seed, types of seeds and  learn how plants grow.  March will include planting seeds in the ground, watching our bulbs rise up and flower, and diving into invertebrates as the Earth warms.

Thank you to all of you for your support, in so many ways.

Here’s to the coming of Spring!

Warmly,
Mary
