6th Graders Prepare for Montessori Model UN

This year, MCS will send its first group of delegates to the Montessori Model UN in New York City! Our four 6th grade students are diligently working through the required materials as they prepare for the March conference. The students will “formulate, present, debate, and revise positions on current issues that are affecting people of the world. By assuming the perspectives of Ambassadors of their selected nations, student delegates not only develop an understanding of the needs and rights of others, but also learn to respect cultures, political views, and beliefs of others.” (fromĀ What is MMUN?) The MCS team will be Ambassadors for Indonesia and will participate in both the UNSC (Security Council) and the DISEC (Disarmament and International Security) committees.

In addition to MMUN course work, the students are also actively fundraising for the trip. In school they are selling pizza for lunch to classmates and in the community they selling car wash tickets to Brown Bear Car Wash. There is also a Go Fund Me campaign underway (https://www.gofundme.com/f/montessoriun ). The students hope to raise enough funds to cover the cost of registration and transportation.

We are excited to see our 6th grade students continue their MMUN studies as they prepare for their trip to NYC! What an adventure!
